A coffee pod machine is a fast and convenient coffee maker that uses pre-portioned coffee pods for brewing. The machine quickly heats the water in a boiler and pumps it through the pod, preserving the aroma of the coffee. Compared to filter coffee machines, coffee pod machines offer more aromatic coffee and are easy to clean. However, they can only make coffee for a few people at a time, and the pods are more expensive than regular coffee. Coffee pod machines are compostable, unlike capsules. The first successful machine was developed in 2002 by Philips and Jacobs Douwe Egberts under the name "Senseo".
