The Geisha coffee cherries are harvested ripe in the period from January to April and processed as 'Honey processed': after pulping, the coffee beans along with part of their pulp are slowly dried in the sun over several weeks. The coffee beans, still sticky, are carefully turned by hand and only when they have reached the right degree of moisture are they taken to the bodega. There they are stored for several months before they are then prepared for transport and come to us in Berlin.

About the farm

Hacienda Sonora is located on the fertile foothills of the Poas Volcano in West Valley, Costa Rica. In the middle of one of the most famous coffee growing areas in the country. For years we have had a close friendship and direct trade business relationship with the Guardia family, who founded the Hacienda.
On 75 hectares, the family grows different varieties of coffee. The coffee trees are "shade grown," growing under a protective canopy of shade trees so that the coffee cherries can ripen undisturbed in a suitable microclimate. The cultivation methods of the hacienda are also super eco friendly: a quebrada that flows through the finca powers a Pelton water turbine that supplies the entire finca with "100% Green Energy" all year round.
