Whole Bean

A clean coffee with a balanced body. Slight acidity due to the note of red currant, combined with gentle sweetness of raspberries and a slightly bitter rounding of blood orange. The best proof of its high quality is its placement on the list of winners of the Cup of Excellence in Ethiopia.

About the coffee

This filter coffee from Ethiopia is a 74110 variety. The Heirloom variety is known to many, but is actually just a generic term that is often used. Subvarieties 74110 and 74112 were developed in the 1970s at the Jimma Agricultural Research Center (JARC) for their resistance to coffee berry disease. These two varieties begin with "74." The number indicates their cataloging and selection in 1974. The 74110 trees are relatively small and have small leaves, cherries and beans.

To get our delicious beans out of the coffee cherries, they are dried on raised beds in the sun and processed into natural coffee.

About the farm

Mulugeta Muntasha has been in the coffee business for 15 years. He works with about 100 farmers in Bursa kebele, Arbegona woreda in the Arbe Guna zone of the Sidama region. In this particular place, he produces coffee variety 74112. At an altitude of 2500 meters, the coffee is grown organically. Every year Mulugeta manages to collect a proud amount of 120,000 kilograms of red ripe cherries.

Mulugeta believes that the farmers should receive a fair price given the amount of work involved, but they do not. By participating in the COE, he hopes to get a higher price for his coffee for this reason, so he can pay farmers a higher amount. "I believe that our high score in this competition will help promote our coffee. We are happy to be on the winners list of Cup of Excellence Ethiopia 2021," he said.
