19grams is a specialty coffee brand from Berlin, founded in 2002. We are dedicated to international premium coffees and live coffee in all its facets. With our 19grams Cafés, the trade of coffee for companies and the online sale of Specialty Coffee, we are broadly positioned. We are a young, international team, with employees from over 20 countries and we are passionate about making our brand bigger and more successful.

We are now looking for a dedicated and experienced Head Roaster to join our team in a small Specialty Coffee roastery in the heart of Berlin on a long-term basis. As Head Roaster, you will take a central role in our company and be responsible for the creation and production of high-quality coffee and for the smooth running of our roastery.

Your duties will include::

Roasting and profiling::

  • Responsibility for the entire roasting process, including green coffee selection, roasting, profiling and quality control.
  • Developing and optimising roasting profiles to ensure the unique taste and quality of our coffees.
  • Monitoring the roasting machines and ensuring consistent roasting.
  • Training the team on coffee roasting, sensory and quality standards.
  • Providing expertise and support in the selection of coffees for sale.
  • Actively engage in the coffee community and participate in training and workshops to stay informed of the latest trends and developments.

Quality control::

  • Conducting regular sensory evaluations and quality checks to ensure our coffees meet the highest standards.
  • Working with the tasting team to develop flavour profiles and continuously improve quality.
  • Implement quality standards and comply with all relevant regulations.

Planning & Sourcing:

  • Work closely with the sourcing team to forecast green coffee requirements and place orders.
  • Working with the sales team to understand customer feedback and continuously improve our products.
  • Assist in the development of new coffees and blends to expand our range.

Your Profile:

  • You are fluent in English
  • Bonus: you speak (fluent) German
  • At least 3 years of professional experience in the Specialty Coffee industry, ideally as a (Production) Roaster or Head Roaster.
  • Extensive knowledge of coffee roasting, including roast profiles, machine settings and quality control.
  • Excellent sensory skills to assess coffee quality.
  • Knowledge of green coffee selection and sourcing.
  • Experience in the development and optimisation of roasting profiles.
  • Ability to work in a team and excellent communication skills.
  • Willingness to continuously learn and stay up to date with the latest industry developments.
  • You are stress resistant and understand how to make quick decisions and solve problems quickly.
  • Basic knowledge of safety procedures
