Coffea, or coffee, is a genus of plants with over 120 known species, including Arabica and Robusta coffee. The plants are evergreen shrubs or trees that produce white fragrant flowers and cherry-like drupes. Coffee beans are obtained by fermenting and roasting the seeds of certain Coffea species. The plant originated in the highlands of Ethiopia and Sudan and is now grown in subtropical regions around the world.
The effects of coffee are mainly due to caffeine, a stimulant that delays fatigue and improves concentration. Caffeine affects the central nervous system, cardiovascular system and various organs. In homeopathy, Coffea is used to treat symptoms that may occur after excessive coffee consumption, such as insomnia, restlessness and nervousness. It is also used for toothache, nerve-related pain and behavioral problems in children and adolescents.
