    About the coffee

This naturally processed coffee has an intense sweetness thanks to the extended drying period with the entirety of the coffee cherry on the beans, which imbue their rich flavours into the coffee as they dry in the sun. This allows unusual flavours to develop, with a tropical tasting acidity that gives way to a complex finish. Natural coffees can be somewhat unpredictable, so the finely balanced flavours in this coffee speak to the skill and care of the team at the Abore Station.

    About the farm

The Shantawene region, in Sidama in Ethiopia’s south-west, is an idyllic corner of the world, perfect for growing coffee. The vegetation is lush and diverse, with many different crops growing amongst the coffees, adding to the sustainability and resilience of the local ecosystem. At an altitude of around 2000 metres, the climate is diverse: sunny and humid days give way to cold nights, which lets coffees ripen slowly, developing complex flavours.

Drawn from 1022 smallholding farmers surrounding the town of Bombe, this coffee was processed at the Abore Station, named after a bridge that was originally dedicated to the local chief. Both washed and natural processed coffees are produced at Abore, which has an extensive set up, including processing, depulping and pressurised sorting equipment. Waste water is also carefully disposed of in a dedicated pool with a natural treatment system, protecting the delicate and beautiful local environment.

    Bloody Good Coffee

    - SINCE 2002

    Bloody Good Filter

Coffee is a fruit which is naturally acidic and contains many sugars. We roast our filter coffees to bring out this acidity and develop the natural sweetness.

In developing a profile for a filter roast, our roasting team takes a light-handed approach, roasting much more gently than in an espresso roast. Here, the aim is to respect and highlight the natural flavours of the coffee itself, and to let its terroir shine through.
