Grand Cru

The term "Grand Cru" is used in an unofficial context in the names of some products, notably beer, chocolate, whiskey and cognac, to indicate a high quality product. While the term "Grand Cru" is well defined in relation to vineyards, its use in relation to other products is not regulated. "Grand Cru" in the context of coffee refers to a particularly excellent coffee. However, it is not a certification, but is awarded by the roaster himself.
