About this coffee
Our Don Martin Geisha Enano (Dwarf Geisha) got his name because of his size. The Enano Geisha variety brings out much smaller coffee shrubs compared to other Geisha varieties. It is probably a freak of nature and a spontaneous mutation of the plant variety.
However, the small size of the Enano does not have a negative effect on the taste of the coffee. On the contrary, the dwarf's taste aromas surprise with soft floral notes that are very clear and balanced in the cup.
Its complex taste profile is supported by the special preparation process developed by farmer Don Martin himself: The "777 Double Fermentation" (we affectionately call it 'Jackpot Coffee') is a combination of aerobic and anaerobic fermentation. This method takes into account the Brix levels in the coffee honey and the pH value of the juice and leachate produced by the anaerobic fermentation.
The coffee impresses in the cup with very sweet notes of strawberries, perfectly balanced by aromas of ripe citrus fruits, and long-lasting floral notes in the finish. The fruit notes continue to develop and become more present as the coffee cools. Our roasters have awarded the Geisha Enano over 90 points on the SCA score. This is the best coffee we are bringing from Costa Rica to Berlin for you this year. A real jackpot!
About the Farm
Tarrazù, it is one of the most famous coffee regions in Costa Rica. The Finca is situated at 2000 meters above sea level. Only ripe, deep red coffee cherries are harvested and processed as natural. On the drying beds in the sun you can see far and wide only dark red cherries. Pride, devotion and love for coffee make this one of the best coffee products of Costa Rica and Central America.
Don Martin Urena and Olga Jimenez met during the coffee harvest and have been married for over 25 years. They have three children and produce one of the best coffees in Costa Rica. Don Martin is 52 years old, and he has dedicated his whole life to coffee: he says of himself that he has been working in coffee for 52 years. Don Martin Urena comes from a family of nine siblings, all of them practically grew up in the coffee fields of the surrounding area. A typical day for him begins at 4:30 a.m. - with a coffee. Afterwards he goes out into the field. Around noon there is a siesta, after which he goes back into the coffee fields. When it gets dark around 6 o'clock, he comes back. During harvest time, when the Naturals are processed, he often works until 10 o'clock in the evening. The Urenas are very proud of their coffee and their work. The Naturals harvested and processed here are pure and of the best quality.
