About this coffee
Specialty Coffee made in China – a contradiction in terms? Not for us! The Yunnan region in China has become more and more interesting for the specialty coffee branch in recent years. China has grown lots of coffee for the commodity market before, mostly Arabica plants, but only a fraction of that is suitable for the specialty industry. This includes our Xingang coffee which grows in the Menglian region at an altitude of 1600m above sea level. Yenai and her oldest daughter Zhaomei take care of the coffee plants at their Xingang farm where the varieties Catimor P3 and P4 grow. Harvest season starts in December and lasts till April. After that the cherries are sorted by hand and then undergo a double fermentation. The cherries are stored in bags for three days and are then laid out on raised beds for a short drying period. Then the second fermentation begins – it lasts about three days, until the aroma of the beans has reached perfection. Afterwards the cherries are spread out on drying beds again for a slow and even drying period which last about a month. This effort does not remain unnoticed – the Xingang coffee scored 85.46 points in the Menglian Coffee Competition 2019.
Coffee has been growing on the Xingang farm for over 20 years now but there are other plants on its side. Tea bushes, cherry trees and watermelon thrive next to the arabica plants. This fruity combination is also available in one cup – our coffee tastes like juicy cherries, guava and dried watermelon. Fruity, sweet, exotic.
