Meet Tonja from our Online Marketing Department

Tonja works with us since January 2021, being a full-time student she supports the Online Marketing Department writing coffee texts, and other contents for the website and learning everything about the Specialty Coffee Industry.

Favourite Food:
Parmigiana – made by my Italian friends!

Where are you from?
Hamburg, Germany.

What should nobody know about you?
I tend to be polite to friends who are not making the best coffee to not hurt their feelings even if my mouth is not that amused about the quality :D

What are you doing at 19grams? Describe your job in one sentence.
I am a copywriter and writing texts for new coffees, the blog or the website in general.

What are you studying?
I am studying International Marketing. It’s a French/German study program and I have the great possibility to study in Berlin as well as in Paris!

Are you already in the job you aimed for in Specialty Coffee, or which job would you want to have/try out in the future?
My big dream would be to do a coffee farm tour along the coffee belt to meet the farmers, try out the local coffees and just to see where the coffee is coming from!

Where you see yourself in 10 years time?
Hopefully in my own Café selling the best pancakes and coffees!

Are you a filter or espresso kinda gal?
Definitely filter!! In my opinion in no other way the flavours can develop so intensely. What I like especially about 19grams filters is the often tea ish kind of touch that makes each of them so unique and pleasant to enjoy.

How many coffees did you drink today?
Just one for the moment because it’s early in the morning – but it will not be the last one for sure ;)

Is there a fact about Specialty Coffee that is super important to you?
The passion the people working in this field are having. It’s the most inspiring talking to soul mates who are sharing the same enthusiasm about bloody good coffee. Specialty Coffee has its own unique world.

When and why did you start working in Coffee?
I was working in Cafés during my studies to earn some extra money. But now at 19grams I can finally learn more expertise knowledge!

Do you prefer a certain Origin? If so, which one?
At the moment my favourite one is the Finca Morelia Red Colombia Kolumbien Filter: It is a pure flavour explosion in your mouth!

How do you brew your coffee at home?
I am a big fan of my V60! First thing in the morning: Going to the kitchen, heating up water, grinding my beans and brewing them. I guess I could not live without this ceremony – it’s the best way to start the day! The gentle smell of coffee in combination with the complex taste notes is not only waking up your mind, but also your heart.
